Introduction
Mount Crosby Language and Mindfulness School Mount Crosby Language and Mindfulness School is a community-focused initiative dedicated to supporting wellbeing, cultural connection, and personal growth. We offer mindfulness programs designed to help individuals and families develop calmness, resilience, and balance in their busy everyday lives. In addition, we provide Sinhalese language classes for young children in Brisbane from Sri Lankan backgrounds, helping them build confidence in speaking, reading, and writing Sinhalese as a second language while strengthening their cultural identity. Our programs aim to create a supportive, values-based environment that nurtures both emotional wellbeing and cultural heritage within the local community.(Operate separately)
Vision & Objectives
Sinhala Language School
The vision of the Sinhala Language School is to nurture and preserve the Sinhala language and Sri Lankan cultural heritage among the younger generation in Brisbane by providing high-quality language education in a supportive, culturally enriching environment. The school aspires to:
- Teach Sinhala reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension to young children.
- Utilise mindfulness techniques to increase focus and foster a supportive environment for learning.
- Provide an understanding of Sri Lankan history, traditions, and cultural values.
- Foster a sense of community among Sri Lankan families in Brisbane.
- Organise cultural events that reinforce Sinhala language skills.
- Develop a curriculum that aligns with educational standards and caters to different proficiency levels.
- Maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students and families.
Meditation & Mindfulness Program
The Meditation and Mindfullness Program aims to create a peaceful and supportive environment where adults can learn and practice mindfulness and meditation, develop inner calm, and cultivate compassion, wisdom, and positive values that benefit both personal well-being and the wider community. The program aspires to:
- Provide practical meditation techniques that help reduce stress and improve mental well-being.
- Encourage mindfulness and self-awareness in daily life.
- Promote compassion, kindness, and positive relationships within the community.
- Introduce the timeless wisdom of Buddhist meditation in a simple and accessible way.
- Support participants in developing emotional balance, patience, and inner peace.
- Create a welcoming space where adults can reflect, learn, and grow together.
Time & Location
Sinhala Language School
Classes are held every Saturday (except the first week of the month) from 3:30 pm to 05:30 pm
Meditation & Mindfulness Program
Classes are conducted on the 2nd and 4th Sundayof each month. Two meditation classes are conducted in both English and Sinhala mediums to support participants from different language backgrounds.
- English Medium: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
- Sinhala Medium: 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
Participants are encouraged to attend regularly to gain the full benefit of the course.
- Mobile phones must be kept on silent mode during sessions.
- The school maintains a respectful, peaceful, and inclusive learning environment.

Sinhala Language School
- Admission is open at the beginning of each academic year.
- Open to children aged 4 -18 years.
- Parental consent is required for students below 18 years.
- Participants mustĀ agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the school.

Meditation & Mindfulness Program
- Admission opens at the beginning of each quarter. Enrolment Form
- The meditation program is completely free and runs as a 3-month beginner course
- Open to adults 18 years and above
- Participants must complete the registration process before joining the program.
- A consent form must be signed prior to participation.
- Participants must agree to abide by theĀ rules and regulations of the school.
Curriculum & Teaching
Sinhala Language School
The curriculum includes:
- Beginner Level: Basic vocabulary, alphabet, and pronunciation.
- Intermediate Level: Sentence formation, grammar, and reading comprehension.
- Advanced Level: Essay writing, literature, and fluency in conversation.
Meditation & Mindfulness Program
Beginner 3 Month Program
- Introduction to the school, its mission, and the background of the teacher/founder.
- Understanding meditation, its purpose, types of meditation, and
- Practicing breathing meditation and mindfulness techniques for calmness and awareness.
- Learning and practicing loving-kindness meditation and understanding its benefits for personal wellbeing and community harmony.
- Walking meditation and guided meditation practices to develop mindfulness in everyday life.
- Buddhist chanting, stress management guidance through meditation, developing good human values, and learning how to become a compassionate and responsible member of the community.
- Current scientific research on meditation, including modern studies showing that mindfulness meditation can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while improving emotional wellbeing and mental clarity.
